If you saw my last video then you’d know I just received my May Vegan Cuts Snack Box. In the last week I’ve done some serious snacking in order to try everything in the box. The box came with 12 snacks so this was quite a mission. There were some hits and some definite misses. Turns out snack boxes are really great if you ever wanted an easy way to find vegan snacks.
I absolutely love popcorn so I was really excited when I saw this cheddar flavored “pipcorn”. Sadly, I wasn’t too in love with the flavor. It definitely has a slight cheddar flavor, but it isn’t enough chees. I love me some cheese flavor. These are called pipcorn and not popcorn because they are smaller pieces of popcorn. It just seems like a gimmick and a weak selling point. I missed the size of normal popcorn kernels as I ate these. However, I do love that all their products are vegan and that they use natural ingredients. They also promote having “3x more pipcorn per cup than the other guys” which definitely seemed true. They actually filled the bag with kernels instead of mostly air.
This snack claims to have the caffeine equivalent of a cup of coffee in each bar and I believe it. I was hungry so I ate about ⅔ of it quickly. A few minutes later I could feel the caffeine kick in hard. I think this is a fantastic idea to get a caffeine fix without drinking coffee or tea. It is also super yummy. I mean who isn’t a fan of coffee and chocolate? I certainly am. This is a date based bar so if you aren’t a fan of dates or dried fruit you probably won’t like this. Most of the bar is really soft. The texture reminded me of a Lara Bar, but this bar has crisp brown rice which added an amazing change. I really love this bar and I’ll be getting more in the future for sure.
So I’m going to be honest: I absolutely hate ginger. I’m not talking about disliking it. I mean I straight up hate the taste of ginger. The presentation does not matter. I don’t like. Surprise surprise, I really didn’t like these candies. If you like ginger, especially ginger candies, you’ll probably like these. At first they taste like sweet peanut butter which is nice, but then you get the spicy ginger flavor and it’s overpowering. I’ll pat myself on the back for at least trying these even though I knew I wouldn’t like them.
I expected this to be popcorn, but it’s actually more like cheese puffs. It is described as puffed corn, so I should have known it wasn’t going to be your standard popcorn. I really like the texture of these, but dear lord do they taste like butter and salt. It was like they took the popcorn from the bottom of a movie theater bucket and served it. I don’t hate it, but it is very overpowering. If you are into the butter flavor they put on movie theater popcorn you’ll probably love this. I’m curious to see if they have different flavors because I’ll probably like a different flavor better.
This bar kind of tastes like a powdery stale 3 Musketeers bar. It’s edible, but definitely not enjoyable. It is a protein bar so I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised it tastes powdery. You can really taste the pea protein. There’s just a subtle chocolate flavor. I would much rather have Lara Bar or Cliff Bar to get some protein and not have them taste like chocolaty peas.
If you miss Nutella since going vegan then I would definitely recommend this spread. It is dark chocolate and hazelnut goodness. It was a bit too chocolaty on it’s own for my liking, but I mixed it with peanut butter on some bread and it tasted amazing. I think it would taste great on pancakes or waffles. I don’t see myself buying this again just because I’m not a huge fan of chocolate spreads, but it was definitely yummy.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Popchips. I was intrigued by these because I thought the ridges would make them taste more like normal potato chips. They do taste more like regular potato chips than other kinds of popchips, but I still wasn’t a huge fan. I found them very salty and not as satisfying as just eating regular potato chips. I would eat them again if they were in front of me, but I wouldn’t seek them out.
I mentioned in my unboxing video that these squeeze packs always reminded me of baby food. Turns out this also tastes like baby food. You can taste the pear and maple, but the consistency is just unpleasantly mushy. I had about two squeezes of this and then gave it to Alan because I really didn’t like it. I don’t really see myself eating fruit squeezes because I don’t need the convenience of a snack like this one. They may be great for athletes, but I’m not doing any crazy exercise that require snacking.
I’m a huge fan of dried mango, but I only buy packs that are 100% mango without any added sugar. These meet that criteria, which is nice. These mango snacks are really good and sweet, but they don’t compare to the Organic Dried Mango from Trader Joe’s (which I’m obsessed with). The SolSimple ones are cut into small pieces, which makes them easy to eat, but I don’t think they stay as juicy as the Trader Joe’s mangos. I also think the price is crazy: $12.98 for a 6 oz bag. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are delicious. I just also think you can find better and cheaper dried mangoes.
This is a really tasty protein shake. It actually tasted like a chocolate milkshake, just like it promoted. They recommend making it with either water or your prefered non-dairy milk and some ice. I didn’t have any ice so I just used almond milk and the powder. I definitely think it needed some ice because it wasn’t very cold and it would have been nicer colder. The ingredients are good, but it has stevia in it which I don’t want in my everyday diet. It also has other things that I’m not entirely sure what they are. I think this shake is really tasty and seems to have better ingredients than a lot of protein shakes, but it’s still not the best.
I really like the way this tea tastes. I love unsweetened fruit teas and drink them all the time. My issue with this tea is the caffeine. It’s not like I don’t ever drink caffeine because I do. This tea just hit me and gave me an headache from the caffeine. I couldn’t drink more than a couple sips without feeling overly caffeinated. If you are looking for a fruit tea with a high caffeine content then this is the tea for you. I just couldn’t deal with it. I gave it to Alan (my fiancee) and he really liked it and didn’t mind the caffeine kick.
